Linking to Sherrod Library Resources from the External Links section of BlackBoard

Linking to E-Reserves

If you do not want to have to copy and paste HTML code, you can link to e-reserves from the External Links section of your BB course.

Access your e-reserve article through the Sherrod Library website, just as a student would:

1. From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu/, click on Find books & Media at ETSU.
2. Select Course Reserve Search.
3. Find and highlight your name in the Instructor box, then click on Search and a list of your reserve titles will appear.
4. Click on the title you want and you will see the holdings record for that item. After the term E-Items, you will see a link to a PDF copy.
5. Click on the PDF copy link and the article will appear.
6. Copy and paste the URL of the article into the BlackBoard External Links box that reads URL of link. Type the name of the link into the Title box.

Linking to netLibrary

Go to netLibrary at http://www.netlibrary.com, access the item you want to link to, and then copy and paste the URL into BB External Links section.

Linking to a Full-Text Article

These databases allow direct access to full-text articles: all InfoTrac from Gale Publishing and JSTOR. Access the desired article on your computer and then copy and paste the URL into the BB External Links section.

Linking to Books or Journals in the Voyager Online Catalog

• To link to books use the following code for the base URL:

http://voyager.etsu.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&v2=1&CNT= 50+records+per+page&DB=local&CMD=ISBN+

Type the ISBN number after the + sign at the end of the code.

To locate the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) of a book, look up the item in the online catalog and then click on the button that reads Staff (MARC) Display. The ISBN number is listed in the 020 field.

Example: 020__ |a 0440094623 ------[The ISBN is 0440094623.]

• To link to periodicals (serials) use the following code for the base URL:

http://voyager.etsu.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&BOOL1=as+a+phrase&FLD1= ISSN+(ISSN)&CNT=50+records+per+page&SA1=

Type the ISSN number after the = sign at the end of the code.

To locate the ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) of a book, look up the item in the online catalog and then click on the button that reads Staff (MARC) Display. The ISBN number is listed in the 022 field.

Example: 022 0_ |a 0037-8046 ------[The ISSN is 0037-8046.]
