The READ ETSU program provides paperback books to the students, staff, faculty and patrons of Sherrod Library as a way to encourage reading in the community. The books are located in a carousel in the front lobby of the library. While no checkout is required, the books are on the honor system of being returned or exchanged for another when the reader is finished. Since 2002, the library has given away roughly 2,000 books. We offer all genres of fiction, as well as biography, history, current events and political analysis. Recent READ ETSU books include works by such authors as Toni Morrison, Tom Clancy, Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen King and Nora Roberts. Classic fiction masters have included Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Wilkie Collins and Ring Lardner. Look for everything from these titles to collections of ancient Celtic myths and Victorian poetry.
Reading promotes concentration and critical thinking as well as being entertaining. As a library, Sherrod Library is proud to promote reading among our community. Maybe you'll see a title you always meant to read or had forgotten about it. Go for it!
We accept donations and also buy mass numbers of books from regional library sales. READ ETSU is graciously supported by the Library Associates and your donations. If you would like to make a donation please call (423) 439-5620 or email flanigan@etsu.edu.
